THE CHALLENGE

A new internal team within the broader client organization tasked us not only with leading exploratory global COVID-19 primary research, but also with developing a robust curriculum and communications planning to share related knowledge and expertise with the varying teams across the organization. Recipients of the educational materials ranged from customer-focused marketers to science-focused researchers.

THE APPROACH

In addition to crafting the insights and building easy-to-follow and engaging education materials, we crafted a unique look and feel within the client’s brand guide to span across different digital media. A more “human” graphic style departed from previous cutout illustration and moved towards hand-drawn graphics on top of rich, people-focused photographs.

A bright, modular presentation template was first developed, borrowing from digital editorial best practices to share information in both presentation and report-style formats and engage stakeholders typically inundated with traditional PowerPoint documents. Easily customizable using coloured shapes and a hidden grid system, the template was could be adapted to fit the PowerPoint needs of any related project.

Template applications quickly expanded to additional educational materials, applying these graphic and illustration styles to project debrief reports, webinar presentations, scrolling, single-page infographics and summary videos. Materials were translated to other languages for accessibility across the organization, modifying layouts to accommodate typographic needs.

THE RESULTS

The distinct visual style was welcomed and celebrated by a broad group of stakeholders and has been established as the standard visual style for all materials developed by the internal client team.

The primary research initiative expanded to partner with global academic experts in related behavioural science and health fields. These subject matter experts regularly host internal webinars for interested colleagues to integrate new methods and practices into their current work. The SMEs are key partners in a semi-annual virtual [internal] knowledge-sharing conference, where attendance doubled 6 months after the inaugural event.

The positive impact and word of mouth recommendations across the company has since resulted in several new primary research projects with adjacent teams within the client organization.
