hand-cut collage

This ongoing series of hand-cut collages was borne out of the desire to connect with the past few generations of my family through black-and-white photographs. Scanned family photos and documents, along with found papers and images, are cut out by hand and rearranged on a paint-your-own postcard from a book collected during my childhood travels.

Although the postcards have the option of being mailed, these pocket-sized works instead act as places for introspection and developing new narratives through newly contextualized images, type and colour. While they are well-suited for wall art, Postcards from Home offer inspiration for other art series and design (see Interiors and Begin Anywhere), as well as a space to sketch and test out new ideas.
