THE CHALLENGE

This multi-media project explores the idea of acclimatizing to the Savannah, GA climate from my hometown of Toronto, ON. My own challenges with training for a half marathon in my first few months in the South shaped the narrative built around the design prompt of the seven-day weather forecast. Seeking to make the mundane meaningful, the narrative throughout the book explores my real-time thoughts and obstacles faced during a week of running.

THE APPROACH

After recording the predicted 7-day forecast from The Weather Network, I spent the next 7 days journaling my thoughts, emotions, worries, concerns and questions about my runs. These words veered from physical response to the weather outside, mimicking the thought-processing and mediation many runners seek during a long run.

Handwritten text was digitally scanned and imported into each spread, contrasting with daily forecasts in light, geometric sans-serif type. Photographs were cropped, masked and cut out to re-form into illustrations that visually mirrored the sentiments expressed in hand-written musings.

THE RESULTS

Imagery and text from the book expand across different media, including a digital watch face for Garmin watches compatible with Garmin Connect IQ technology, OOH posters, stickers and custom-printed tank tops, including a custom hangtag for each Gap shirt. Each element was crafted with the intention to be shared or made available to other runners sharing similar sentiments and seeking solace in shared experiences of acclimation.
